Somewhere Over the Rainbow: The 6th Annual Taste of Linsly

Transport yourself to the Land of Oz, where the delights of Emerald City await at the 6th Annual Taste of Linsly on Saturday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. in Linsly School’s Banes Hall sponsored by Paull Associates Insurance/Real Estate.

With a whimsical “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” theme, this year’s event will feature delicious food and wine from a variety of local restaurants and caterers, as well as an amazing list of silent and live auction items and raffle prizes. Live entertainment will feature the popular local band Hit Play. The Taste of Linsly has become one of the school’s largest fundraisers of the year, with all proceeds going to benefit the Linsly Fine and Performing Arts Programs.

Once again, the Taste of Linsly has fantastic silent auction and raffle items for all price ranges. From vacation homes, to private baseball and lacrosse lessons, to student artwork and Steelers, Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates tickets, there is something for everyone at the Taste of Linsly.

The Taste of Linsly Planning Committee prepares for another fantastic event with a “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” theme on Saturday, February 25. Pictures are members of the Taste of Linsly Planning Committee: (Left to Right) Melissa Leone, Aimee Zimmerman, Lee Paull IV, Taste of Linsly Event Title Sponsor, Stacey Creely, Katie Campsey and Aslynn Belancic.

The evening will feature elegant cuisine from several area vendors, including As You Like It Catering by Bob Bailey, the Metropolitan Citi Grill, Silver Chopsticks, Spicy Gringo’s, Presidents Pub, Mmm Popcorn, Aladdin Food Service, Centre Market Bakery, and 19 Coffee Company. Also joining the evening are Chicco Baccello Bakery of Washington, PA and Main Street Cafe of Claysville, PA.  Guests will enjoy a selection of wine from Good Mansion Wines and craft beer from Wheeling Brewing Company. Wheeling photographer and Linsly alum Bennett McKinley will take pictures during the event.

According to Mrs. Aimee Zimmerman, head of the Taste of Linsly planning committee, the Taste of Linsly is an event that brings the Linsly community and the local community together in what has become a spectacular social event.

“We are thrilled at how this event has grown over the years,” said Zimmerman. “Not only does it bring our Linsly family together, but it also is an opportunity for Linsly to partner with area businesses as sponsors and food vendors. The support we receive from our Linsly community and local businesses is the reason this event is so successful.”

Zimmerman explained that the Taste of Linsly offers a range of raffle and silent auction items to fit all budgets so that everyone can participate.

“Our live auction will feature bigger ticket items, such as a trip for four to Walt Disney World, four Steelers tickets in the Champions Club level, and a weeklong vacation and golf package in a 3-bedroom condo in Reunion, FL. We also feature a Chinese Raffle, where tickets start at $5, with fabulous prizes as well. Additionally, student artwork from our advanced art students will be available through the silent auction. Their work is incredible.”

One of the most exciting auction items this year is a trip for four to New York City.

“We are really excited to auction off a new trip this year to New York City,” said Zimmerman. “The package includes round-trip airfare for four, a stay at a New York City Hilton hotel and a $500 voucher for Broadway show tickets.”

Linsly Headmaster, Mr. Justin Zimmerman explained that proceeds from this year’s Taste of Linsly event will support the Fine and Performing Arts programs at Linsly.

“Linsly has a long tradition of supporting the arts,” said Zimmerman. “The Linsly Extravaganza has been in existence for 79 years and is the longest running variety show in the Ohio Valley. The Williams Visual Arts Center on our campus is an amazing facility where students in middle school and high school enjoy taking various levels of art and pottery classes. Because we want to continue providing our students with the best possible experience in the Fine and Performing Arts, proceeds from this year’s Taste of Linsly will support these programs. We are so proud to have Linsly trustees, faculty, parents, alumni and members of our local community participate in the Taste of Linsly to support such a worthy cause. We would especially like to thank Paull Associates for their support as our title sponsor this year.”

Tickets purchased in advance are $50 per person or $65 at the door. Sponsorship opportunities for businesses are also available for this event. For more information about Taste of Linsly, to donate an auction or raffle item, or to register online, go to www.linsly.org/tol.
