Local Events: Workshops, Yoga and Live Entertainment This Weekend in Wheeling Weelunk Staff September 17, 2020 Future, Here Premiere This weekend, head to Towngate Theatre for the premiere of Future, Here by Jeremy F. Richter. Take a trip to Future, an unincorporated village populated by five randomly selected children and monitored by Society. Their only connection to mainstream America is a cell phone which is constantly fed with a steady stream of news, entertainment and culture. At the end of each day, the children meet to share what they’ve learned. Today, at the age of 18 and having lived in Future for 12 years, they learn of their next residence as the countdown clock looming over their meeting area reaches 00:00:00. Learn Something New Spend an afternoon learning how to make your own soap this Saturday, Sept. 19 at Oglebay Park’s Schrader Environmental Center from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. This workshop will teach you how to make shampoo, hand soap, lard and suet cakes. Participants will need to bring an apron, a quart container with screw-on lids, and a bag to take your products home. Dress for the weather, as part of this workshop will take place outdoors. Get Outdoors Join Generation Wheeling, in partnership with Wheeling Parks & Recreation, for a free outdoor yoga class at Market Plaza at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Generation Wheeling’s own Betsy Sweeny will lead an all-level, beginner-friendly, slow-flow class. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, bring your own mat, blocks and any other materials for the practice. Safe social distancing guidelines will be followed. Tune Into People’s U Don’t miss the latest People’s University LIVESTREAM, Women’s Rights – Equal Rights Amendment, this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The People’s University is a free program for adults who wish to continue their education in the liberal arts, featuring courses taught by experts in each subject that enable patrons to pursue their goal of lifelong learning. People’s University classes are held from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays on YouTube Live and Facebook Live. In honor of Constitution Day, this PU Livestream will focus on the amendment process in the context of the struggle for the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). The discussion will be led by Anne Marie Lofaso, Arthur B. Hodges Professor of Law at the West Virginia University College of Law. Attendees who ask a relevant question of the instructor toward the end of the program will be entered in a drawing to win an Ida Bell Wells tea towel.
