Wheel Help!: It’s Your Call-to-Action. Engage!

In his inaugural speech, Wheeling Mayor Glenn Elliott aptly stated, “No single Mayor, City Council member, non-profit organization, or business can change this city alone. Only by working together can we prove to all the naysayers once and for all that Wheeling is back. And that we are back for good.”

The call-to-action was simple, Engage.

Your opportunity to engage in Wheeling’s future is at hand. The Mayor and Council have created a new ad-hoc committee called ‘Wheel Help!’ to spur volunteerism across the city.  At the August 16th City Council meeting, 4th Ward Councilwoman Wendy Scatterday announced the Wheel Help! Leadership team.

Through Wheel Help!, City Council is seeking additional volunteers to help with future projects and initiatives. Councilwoman Scatterday shared that the play-on-words title echoes the generous offers of assistance that Council members have heard from residents.

The committee’s initial Call-to-Action is a survey that will allow citizen’s to identify the interests and skills they are willing to bring to projects. Council is requesting all interested citizens to complete survey and share with friends and family members.  Completing this survey does not commit volunteers to a project or committee. The information will be shared with City Council and city staff to be considered for future initiatives.

Employers are encouraged to engage their staff to complete the survey.

Church leaders are encouraged to engage their parishioners to complete the survey.

Non-profits are encouraged to engage their members to complete the survey.

“Anything you’re willing to volunteer – time, skills, use of equipment, cookie baking, or phone call making – if you like doing something and want to contribute that to our city, we welcome you,” Scatterday added.
