(Wheeling, WV) Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces the second concert of its spring chamber orchestra series, The Driehorst Family Foundation presents SoundBites Vol. II: Musician Takeover. The event will be held at Wheeling Park White Palace on April 23 at 7:30 pm. The evening will feature a specialty cocktail and appetizers. Social-distancing rules will be observed.
Nine musical acts, twenty-one musicians, one Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s Musicians take center stage at Wheeling Park’s White Palace for our “Musician Takeover” concert. Programmed by your very own WSO musicians, join us for an entertaining evening of musical mashups and classical twists with a signature cocktail and appetizer, plus vote for your favorite act of the night with a special “Applause, Applause” crowd-funded bonus.
As part of the SoundBites Volume II series, Wheeling Symphony musicians were given the opportunity to apply for mini-grants to fund solo or small group performances for this event. Over twenty applications were received and reviewed by a panel of judges. Nine musical acts were selected to perform and their works have been curated into a program by WSO Music Director John Devlin.
“Our SoundBites concerts are a way for audiences to connect with our musicians, and this concert allows our musicians to showcase not only their individual artistry, but also their musical creativity and tastes,” says Bryan Braunlich, executive director of the WSO. “We cannot wait for the community to come out and celebrate live musical acts in a new concert experience, while supporting their favorite WSO musicians. It is going to be an exciting night.”
Audiences will see performances from: Dawn Posey, violin; Katya Janpoladyan, cello; Ellen Fast, piano; Cynthia Anderson, oboe; Robin Driscoll, oboe; Eliseo Rael, percussion; Jan Fung, percussion; Liam Flaherty, percussion; Juan Jaramillo, violin; Jennifer Gerhard Mangone, viola; Elisa Kohanski, cello; Jeff Mangone, bass; Glenn Lewis, piano; Roi Mezare, clarinet; Rodrigo Ojeda, piano; Nadine Sherman, cello; Will Teegarden, cello; Susanna Reilly, cello; Barbara O’Brien, flute; Nuiko Wadden, harp; Maureen Conlon Gutierrez, violin.
“As the Wheeling Symphony’s Music Director, one of my central artistic goals is to highlight the unique talents and artistic perspectives of our musicians.,” says Maestro John Devlin. “The Musician Takeover could not be a more perfect way to achieve this goal! I know our audience will be impressed with the diverse and interesting performances we will hear from our musicians.”
Audience members will end the night with an “Applause, Applause” crowd-funded bonus whereby each audience member will be given the opportunity to “vote” for their favorite performance. Each ticketholder will receive one vote but will be given the opportunity to purchase one additional vote for a minimum donation of $10. Once the results of voting are tabulated, the performer(s) with the most votes, will take home the “pot” of money contributed by all voters.
