The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s WSO on the GO ensembles will stage two performances during the month of April. “The Music of Claude Bolling” will be featured at the Mansion Museum at Oglebay on Thursday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. Performers will include: Elisa Kohanski, cello; Barbara O’Brien, flute; Jeffrey Mangone, bass; Rodrigo Ojeda, piano; Dylan Moffitt, drum set. On Saturday, April 9 “Trio Simone” will perform at Leonardo’s Coffeehouse in Steubenville, Ohio at 5:00 p.m. The trio is comprised of WSO musicians, Ann Moskal, violin; Jennifer Mangone, viola; and Jeffrey Mangone, bass.
“WSO on the Go is a great way to experience live music in a more intimate setting than the concert hall,” says Betsy Delk, the WSO’s Director of Institutional Advancement. “Oglebay’s Mansion Museum will be the perfect backdrop for Claude Bolling’s music. And we are eager to return to Leonardo’s in Steubenville which is a great place to enjoy a concert and a coffee.”
“The Music of Claude Bolling” will be celebrated at Oglebay’s Mansion Museum on Thursday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. featuring WSO musicians, Elisa Kohanski (cello), Jeff Mangone (bass), Barbara O’Brien (flute), Dylan Moffitt (tympani) and Rodrigo Ojeda (piano). Bolling, the late jazz pianist and composer, played and composed in a variety of styles and his “Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano” spent more than 10 years on the Billboard classic album chart. The WSO on the Go performance will feature this suite along with Bolling’s “Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano.”
The WSO on the Go performance at Leonardo’s will feature Trio Simone. “Trio Simone” originated in the summer of 2016, as three members of the WSO String section who performed for longtime WSO supporter Simone Ziegler, on the sad occasion of her son’s memorial service. The group was proud to represent the WSO for such a special person, and from that point on mutually agreed upon the name “Trio Simone.” Since their somewhat unique formation in 2016, “Trio Simone” has performed many times in Wheeling and the surrounding area. The group performs varying styles and musical genres, from classical to pop music. All three members of Trio Simone – Jeff Mangone, Jennifer Mangone and Ann Moskal are long-term dedicated members of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra.
Because of the generous support of our sponsors and donors, including title sponsor Roxby Labs all WSO on the GO concerts & events are free to the public to entice and encourage new audiences to become long-time supporters. More information is available at wheelingsymphony.com.
