Exciting things are happening in the Greater Moundsville area! A new Visitor Center, a photo contest, and upcoming holiday events are just a few things happening in Marshall County, W. Va.
Visitor Center Moves to Glen Dale
The Greater Moundsville Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has a new home in Glen Dale. The CVB moved in October from the Chamber of Commerce building (Kirkside) in Moundsville and is now conveniently located along Route 2 in the Cockayne Farmstead Tenant House across from John Marshall High School. Location was the deciding factor in the move. The CVB is partnering with the Marshall County Historical Society to share office space and resources. The Cockayne Farmstead, operated by the historical society, is iconically known as a turn of the 20th century time capsule. We encourage visitors and locals to stop in Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and learn something new about Marshall County.

‘Tis the Season
It may not feel like it with the warm weather we have been seeing in the Ohio Valley, but Christmas is just over a month away! There are several upcoming events in the Greater Moundsville area to get you in the Holiday Spirit!
Great holiday events and details can be found at MarshallCountyTourism.com. A link on the home page under the “Holiday Season” photo will provide you with a PDF listing the events. With so many special events, do not forget to capture your memories with photos and enter our photo contest for a chance to win great prizes!
A few holiday events have already taken off. For those not ready for Christmas quite yet, Grand Vue Park’s 7th Annual Turkey Trot took place on Thanksgiving Day morning. The 5k was non-competitive, informally timed, family oriented, and pet-friendly, provided they are on a leash. Non-perishable food donations were accepted to benefit a local soup kitchen.
And of course, once Thanksgiving is over, it’s always time to hit the stores and get everything on your shopping list taken care of! For some people, Black Friday isn’t your thing, so it was a great time to support local businesses during Small Business Saturday and Christmas on the Avenue on Nov. 28. Carriage and train rides were offered, along with festive music, Christmas tree lighting, and more, all taking place in Moundsville’s Historic Business District, Jefferson Avenue.
