As an alumna of Central Catholic High School, I was thrilled to learn that I would have the opportunity to return to my alma mater as a student teacher, and that I would once again be able to participate in CCHS’s homecoming events. Although much has changed at Central over the past few years, the traditions of unity and faith remain the foundation of Central’s homecoming week.
On Wednesday of this week, the Central Catholic High School community celebrated homecoming by participating in a beach-themed dress down day and by hosting a guest speaker from Sports World, Inc. Students, faculty, and staff attired in beach/Hawaiian clothing gathered in Central’s cafeteria to listen to Chip Minton, a former Olympic bobsledder and WCW wrestler, speak about the importance of making smart choices and dreaming big. Minton reminded students of the impact that even the smallest decisions can have on their lives and pointed out that friends are like an elevator; they can either bring you up or bring you down. It was inspiring to watch the entire CCHS community join together as one to listen attentively to Minton’s advice. Homecoming week at Central is all about strengthening the bond between the members of the CCHS family, and this unity was obvious at the assembly today. As homecoming week continues and the football game and dance approach, I am reminded of this same tradition of fellowship from my days at Central Catholic High School. If anything, I feel that the Central community has grown stronger and closer together in my years away. I look forward to the remainder of the homecoming festivities that Central has in store. Without a doubt, they will center on CCHS’s long-standing tradition of creating a sense of camaraderie amongst a diverse group of students and faculty. Go, Knights!
