Community members who enjoy singing are invited to join the choir at West Liberty University this year.
“The WLU Community Choir is open to everyone who likes to sing. We hope you will make plans to join us for our spring semester of music making. We’ll be preparing an eclectic choral/orchestral concert featuring a cantata by J.S. Bach, a Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott, and arrangements of American hymns and folksongs by Mack Wilberg,” said Ryan Keeling, WLU director of choral activities.
All interested singers are welcome, from high school to adult.
Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, from 7-9 p.m. beginning Jan. 14 and culminate with an afternoon concert on Saturday, April 13, to be held at Vance Memorial Presbyterian Church.
The Community Choir requires no audition and has been active for four years. Students are free but other choir members are asked to pay a nominal fee of $35.
“The Community Choir is a really fun inter-generational group of singers from high school age up that meets weekly for fast-paced, challenging rehearsals culminating in a public performance with professional orchestra,” Keeling said.
Interested new members can simply show up at the 7 p.m. rehearsal on Jan. 14 or contact Ryan Keeling at ryan.keeling@westliberty.edu or by phone 304-336-8090.
A resident of Pittsburgh, Keeling joined WLU as its director of Choral Activities this past July. Also an alumnus, he is the artistic director of Western Pennsylvania’s premier chamber choir Voces Solis and assistant conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, as well as the music director of OvreArts.
