The Junior League of Wheeling is beginning its 80th year of fulfilling its mission to support women and children in the greater Wheeling area.
The organization’s 2019-20 year began in May with the appointment of new officers. Sarah West, who will serve as this year’s president, noted that the organization has seen growth in the last few years, with half of the incoming board consisting of members who have joined the league in the last two years.
“This growth speaks to the number of women in our community who are passionate about the league’s mission, and who are dedicating their time volunteering to help make an impact,” West said. “And just as importantly, this increase in membership also means that we have the ability to do more projects in the community.”
This year’s executive board will consist of President Sarah West, Vice President/President-Elect Jennifer Rohrig, Treasurer Erica Wilcox and Secretary Mary Lu Adams.
The Junior League will be collaborating with multiple organizations throughout this year, including House of the Carpenter and Crittenton Services. They will also expand upon their Girl on Fire program, a workshop that educates, empowers and motivates young women in the community.
Plans are already underway for the Affair with Flair, the Junior League’s annual fundraiser, West noted. The event, which is typically held in March, features food from the area’s best restaurants, live entertainment and the chance to win thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes
