Join the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra along with champion professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Figure Skating clubs, local middle and high school choirs, and surprise guests to welcome the sounds of the season.
Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s annual holiday event, Main Street Bank and EQT Foundation Present Symphony on Ice, conducted by Music Director John Devlin, is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
The program will feature professional skaters, Jeremy Abbott and Katie McBeath.
Abbott is a four-time U.S. figure skating champion and U.S. Olympic Team bronze medalist. His career highlights include being a 2014 Olympic Winter Games bronze medalist, seven-time Grand Prix Series medalist (three gold, two silver, two bronze) and a three-time U.S. champion (2009, 2010, 2012).
McBeath is a five-time sectional medalist, five-time national competitor and 2017 collegiate national champion.
In addition to the professional skaters, the Pittsburgh and Wheeling Skate Clubs will return to perform along with the Pittsburgh Theatre on Ice and Steel City Blades, and other special surprise guests.
Not only does Symphony on Ice bring the best entertainment in skating, it also features many of Ohio Valley’s young musicians. Over 350 local middle and high school choir students participate. Schools include Bellaire High School, Brooke High School, Martins Ferry High School, Sherrard Middle School, St. Clairsville High School, Triadelphia Middle School, Warwood Middle School, Wheeling Country Day School and Wheeling Park High School.
“Symphony on Ice is truly a unique experience that brings our entire community together,” said John Devlin, music director and conductor of the WSO. “I am thrilled to be involved in this special event for the first time — and I’ve never seen an orchestra do anything quite like it! The music you will hear will help get your holiday season off to a great start, and we know that your family will love being with us at WesBanco Arena.”
