The results are in – Downtown Wheeling is the place to live! That’s according to the results collected through Wheeling Heritage’s recent housing survey.
The Wheeling Live It Up! Survey was initiated in October 2021 to learn more about the types of housing people would like to see in Downtown Wheeling. More than 1,300 people participated in the survey, providing a wealth of information to current and future property developers.
What were some of the key takeaways from the results, you ask? To the delight of Wheeling Heritage and other downtown stakeholders, there’s a clear interest in expanded downtown housing and amenities. Of those surveyed, 50 percent indicated that they would or might be interested in living in Downtown Wheeling. When it comes to folks who are already living downtown, 68 percent said that they were likely to recommend Downtown Wheeling as a good place to live.
All of the data collected through this survey will be instrumental in guiding future development and redevelopment projects in Downtown Wheeling and its surrounding neighborhoods, according to Betsy Sweeny, director of heritage programming for Wheeling Heritage. “We’ve known for years that, anecdotally, people are interested in living downtown, but now we have the data to prove it,” said Sweeny. “This survey provides critical information to our community partners and future developers about the kinds of housing and amenities that Wheeling can support.”
