Jurassic Park: In Concert, will be the WSO’s final Pops concert of the 2022-2023 season. This special performance will include film with live orchestra on Friday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre. Conducted by WSO Music Director John Devlin, the WSO will perform John Williams’ iconic score as the film is screened in HD above the stage. Tickets begin at $11.

“This is a first for the WSO,” says John Devlin, WSO Music Director. “In the past, we’ve shown clips from the scores we perform, but we’ve never done a full film-with-orchestra event before. And what film could be more exciting than the iconic Jurassic Park?”

Released in 1993, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park follows paleontologist Alan Grant and paleobotanist Ellie Sattler on an incredible adventure as they visit John Hammond’s Jurassic Park, a theme park of cloned dinosaurs created from recovered DNA found from fossilized amber. Naturally, chaos ensues as life “finds a way,” creating one of the most beloved action franchises of all time.

The groundbreaking visual effects, which won numerous accolades including an Academy Award, promise to be just as exciting in concert as they were when the move was first released 30 years ago. “Jurassic Park: In Concert will allow Jurassic Park fans to experience the movie like never before,” says Devlin. “Imagine the tyrannosaurus rex larger than life on a screen above you, while John Williams’ thrilling and suspenseful music fills the room. We may not be able to give you live dinosaurs, but I’d say this is the next best thing!”

Five more Jurassic Park films have been released over the past several decades, with the most recent being last summer’s Jurassic World Dominion. Because of this, the wonder and excitement of “real-life” dinosaurs has been kept alive for children for generations, making this concert an exciting experience the whole family can enjoy. “We are thrilled to support the Wheeling Symphony’s Jurassic Park: In Concert,” says Belmont Savings Bank Director of Marketing Alicia Jordan. “This concert is a great way to bring more of the arts to the community. AND, it’s exciting for everyone, regardless of your age.”

“The Wheeling Symphony is one of the Ohio Valley’s best assets, and we couldn’t be prouder to help bring this exciting concert to fruition,” adds Gary Glessner of The Glessner Group. “We know this experience is going to be an absolute blast not only for the kids, but also for those of us who remember the excitement of Jurassic Park when it first came out.”

In addition to the performance, there will be themed photo ops and other surprises for concertgoers. “It’s always exciting to perform John Williams on a concert, but actually playing the score alongside the film is going to make it that much better,” says Devlin. “I can’t wait to share such an exciting evening of film and music with the Valley’s kids and kids at heart!”
