While the typical Valentine’s Day celebration includes chocolates, roses and candy hearts, two local fitness instructors are offering a completely new family-friendly event as an alternative way to celebrate this this year.
Founder and owner of Wheeling’s premier yoga studio, Happy Goat Yoga, Lindsay Schooler, and Ohio Valley MMA owner, fitness instructor and personal trainer, Johnny Haught, both located on Main Street in North Wheeling, have teamed up to offer “Happy, Healthy V-Day” on Sunday, February 14th from 2:00-4:30 p.m. All proceeds from this event will benefit the August Levy Learning Center in Wheeling.
This unique family-friendly event offers a complete list of activities throughout the afternoon ranging from children’s yoga and partner thai yoga to adult cardio kick boxing and will utilize the space both at Happy Goat Yoga, 600 Main Street, and at Ohio Valley MMA, which are located only a few blocks apart.
According to Schooler, the two instructors are friends, and decided to work together to offer a unique alternative to celebrating Valentine’s Day that incorporated fitness, wellness and self-love.
“We’re really excited to be working together on this event. It’s going to be a lot of fun for the whole family,” said Schooler who is a certified yoga instructor and meditation expert. “Whether you are a yogi or completely new to the fitness scene this event has something for everyone. I’m really excited that we have fitness classes for kids too so the whole family can participate. The fact that the event is going to benefit the Augsta Levy Learning Center, such an amazing organization in our community, makes it even more special.”
Schooler explained that Nikki Kiger, a PT and MPT specializing in physical therapy and yoga will be the instructor for children ages 8-14 for the event.
“Kids ages 8-14 will practice mindfulness, breath awareness and yoga flow in a fun, relatable way that has real world benefits,” said Schooler. “Nikki’s Radiant Child Yoga teacher training has had a profound impact on her clients and we are incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to shine that light on our own children! Kids will receive a take away to continue their practice at home with the whole family”
Schooler also commented on her partnership with Ohio Valley MMA.
“I’m really proud to be working with Ohio Valley MMA and Johnny Haught on this event,” said Schoolar. “He is the best of the best when it comes to personal training, boxing, and cardio. It is the perfect balance of yoga, strength and cardio for all fitness levels.”
A native to Wheeling, Haught is a professional boxer who has won numerous local and regional championships.
“Johnny will offer an adult class for this event that will allow them to take fitness home with them,” said Schooler. “Participants will walk away from his class with a everyday household workout that is quick and effective, accessible to all levels and can be done anytime, anywhere. They will literally take home a simple plan to keep the healthy fun going!”
Another unique activity offered during the afternoon will be Partner Thai Yoga Bodywork.
“Partners learning Thai Yoga Bodywork will learn a short routine of gentle stretching, massage and energy work on one another and take home notes to continue the practice for loved ones.,” said Schooler.
