Applications are now being accepted for the Junior League of Wheeling’s Linda Bordas Scholarship. Three young women exemplifying leadership and volunteerism will be chosen as recipients of the $500 scholarship.
Senior girls from Linsly, Wheeling Central Catholic and Wheeling Park High School with a minimum 2.5 GPA with plans to attend an institute of higher education can apply. One applicant will be chosen from each of the three high schools.
Selected students will be expected to accept the award at the Junior League of Wheeling’s annual dinner, set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, at Sandscrest Conference and Retreat Center.
“Being able to extend support as these impressive young women develop their potential as the next generation of leaders is the ultimate embodiment of our mission as an organization,” said Jenna Richardson, fund development chair for the Junior League of Wheeling. “There’s no better way to empower our community and its women than to invest in their future.”
Interested applicants can apply by visiting their school counselor for an application or by sending an email to Richardson at jennaarich@gmail.com. The application deadline is Friday, March 27.
The Linda Bordas Scholarship fund was founded in 2019 to provide support for young women in Ohio County with plans to enter higher education. Bordas, a Junior League sustaining member, provided an endowment to the fund that the Junior League matches to provide three $500 scholarships yearly.
