West Liberty University announced a “Topper Takeover” of the City of Wheeling today at an 11 a.m. media event. Topper Takeover includes events to coincide with the MEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament at WesBanco, March 6-10, presented by The Health Plan.
Mayor Glenn Elliott was present to join the excitement and to offer WLU the “Key to the City.” The announcement took place at the WLU Foundation office, 1100 Main St.
“I thank the mayor for this honor and encourage all basketball fans to join us for the games. We are proud of our student-athletes and pleased that Wheeling is hosting the highly successful MEC tournament. We look forward to the competition and wish all the teams good luck,” said President Stephen Greiner.
“Local businessman Mike Ferns and owner of Rivers Edge restaurant is hosting a lunch for our MEC champs, and we are so grateful,” said Angie Zambito-Hill, executive director of the West Liberty University Foundation.
Manager of River City Restaurant and West Liberty University alumnus Jason Miller also is partnering with WLU for much of the Topper Takeover action and will offer daily specials, official MEC/WLU merchandise, raffles, live entertainment and more at River City for all basketball fans.
Sport Your Colors, owned by alumni Chris and Mike Haney, is donating official MEC/WLU shirts.
