Grab your capes for an action-packed program with the WSO. Including themes from Superman, Spider-Man, the Incredibles, Captain America, The Dark Knight and The Avengers series, this concert also features a special tribute to our real-life heroes — the men and women of the U.S. armed forces.

Huff is a conductor, composer and U.S. Army Music Officer, currently acting as music director of the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Concert Band and Colorado Pops Orchestra, director of the University of Colorado Boulder Campus Orchestra, co-director of the International Conducting Institute and staff conductor of the International Concerto Festival. Maestro Huff has conducted orchestral, band, choral, opera, ballet and new music performances for over 15 years across the U.S. and Europe.

As a U.S. Army Music Officer, Captain Huff has conducted concerts at the White House, the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, and at other important monuments and landmarks in Washington, D.C. A native Texan, Maestro Huff studied classical guitar, music theory and composition at Texas State University before moving to Los Angeles where he earned a Master of Music degree in music theory and composition from UCLA. In addition to his musical career, Maestro/Captain Huff loves espresso, bicycling and his novelist wife Taylor Morris.

“I am thrilled to be in Wheeling for the Superheroes! event,” Huff said.  “Before I started reading orchestra scores, I loved comic books, and of course the great superhero movies. On Jan. 18, the mighty sound of the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will capture the public’s imagination in the same way as those legendary heroes. This event will also feature sounds, images, characters and a tribute to our real-life heroes — the men and women who protect us every day. You don’t want to miss this concert! You should wear a costume, too!”

Prior to the concert, patrons can purchase a pre-show dinner buffet, catered by Charlie Schlegel from Ye Olde Alpha at 6 p.m. in The Capitol Theatre Ballroom. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for those 18 and younger. Patrons are also encouraged to come in their favorite superhero costumes.

Immediately following the performance, the board of directors invites attendees to stay for a free post-show reception with Maestro Huff and other members of the symphony orchestra.
