HomeIdeasThe Greenest City in West Virginia? George October 22, 2015 4 Editor’s Note: This is the first contribution from George Kellas. George won the Show of Hands event in September. His winning project aims to document Wheeling through film and digital media. Did you know the city of Wheeling, WV only recycles 5% of its garbage? Scrappy Pappy’s aims to make Wheeling the greenest city in West Virginia by recycling a huge portion of what used to make its way to landfills. They recycle everything from metals, to plastics, and paper products. It’s extremely simple to get involved. Just bag up all your recyclables, drop off at Scrappy’s and they’ll take care of the rest! Fun Fact: This year Scrappy Pappy’s has recycled an average of 20,000 pounds of trash a week. As an individual, you can get involved by recycling with Scrappy’s and spreading the word. If you are a business, reach out to Scott Ludolph, and see if he can save you time and money by picking your trash up on location! October 22, 2015 That’s good to hear Steve., thanks. Maybe it was back at the time when glass and cardboard (I don’t think plastic was ever allowed) were in the midst of being disallowed in the bins. He was shocked and irate about some information he had received that “not all” of the contents in Wheeling’s ubiquitous red and blue recycling bins gets recycled. To this day I often think about that and wonder too when I’m dragging my bin to the curb.
