The Youth Services System Inc. Board of Directors will host the 12th annual Good Samaritan Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Wheeling Park White Palace. Charlie Schlegel, chef/owner of Ye Olde Alpha Restaurant in Wheeling, is the 2019 Good Samaritan honoree.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or by calling Laura Weber, 304-218-2894, ext. 102. Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, Aug. 9.
“Every November, Charlie comes to our Wheeling SleepOut fundraiser for local homeless youth and cooks a delicious meal for participants. And for the past six years, he and his dedicated staff at the Alpha have raised more than $40,000 for local children during their Ugly Server Contest. YSS is one of dozens of local charities Charlie supports. He truly has a Samaritan’s heart and is most deserving of this honor,” said Betsy Bethel-McFarland, YSS communications manager.
Fitzsimmons Law Firm is the premier sponsor of the 2019 Good Samaritan Dinner. Wheeling Hospital also is a sponsor.
YSS contracts Schlegel to cater the Good Samaritan Dinner each year, and this year will be appetizers of bruschetta, hummus, and spinach and artichoke dip, with main courses of London broil, lemon chicken, and bourbon and brown sugar shrimp, along with vegetables, salad, bread and dessert.
Gregg Molnar will provide musical entertainment, and there will be a chance auction. For more information, call Bethel-McFarland, 304-218-2870.
