It’s that time of year again for Thanksgiving festivities with family, Christmas celebrations around the Ohio Valley, and the Wheeling Nailers’ season debut at WesBanco Arena. When the team first arrived in Wheeling in 1992 as the Wheeling Thunderbirds, they quickly became a hot commodity among residents. Now, entering their 33rd season, the Nailers are off to a strong start with an 8-3 record (as of 11/19/2024). COO of the Nailers, John Davis, says he is “most excited about the rising attendance numbers this season and the successful planning that’s coming to fruition at the arena.”
December Home Games: Events for the Whole Family
The home game lineup for December features plenty of events for fans of all ages to enjoy!
- Friday, December 6th @ 7:10 PM – Frosty Friday – $2 select beer cans.
- Sunday, December 8th @ 4:10 PM – Sensory Night – No goal horn, stress-puck giveaway, no strobe lights or light show, and a postgame skate with all players!
- Friday, December 20th @ 7:10 PM – Frosty Friday – $2 select beer cans.
- Saturday, December 28th @ 7:10 PM – The Nailers take on the Iowa Heartlanders.
- Sunday, December 29th @ 4:10 PM – Odd-numbered players will host a postgame skate on the ice with anyone who wants to join!
- Tuesday, December 31st @ 6:10 PM – Kids’ Neon New Year’s Eve – Glow sticks and cups will be given away, with a sparkling grape juice toast for the kids and a champagne bar for those over 21! Stick around for a light show after the game to close out 2024!
The first home game in 2025 will be on Saturday, January 11th for Star Wars Night! The night will feature Lightsaber Churros, themed cocktails & mocktails, and specialty Star Wars donuts made by the best—So Nuts 4 Donuts!
Engaging New Fans: The Nailers’ Commitment to the Community
Max Fiedorczyk, one of the sales managers for the Nailers, is excited to introduce the team to new fans in the Friendly City. “Our teams have made a lot of strides to make the organization as appealing as possible to families and young people over the past few years,” he says. “The team has been around for 30 years, with much of our fan base still the same as in the team’s first season. But with a focus on specific theme nights targeting youth, promotions, and everything in between, we’ve been seeing a lot of new young faces coming into the arena, and we are really excited about it.”
Fiedorczyk also mentions that many people are realizing the quality product the Nailers are putting out. “A lot of people are realizing that we’re really putting a good product out there for the community,” he adds, expressing gratitude for the strong local support. “I hope to see many of you soon at WesBanco Arena to support our Nailers!”
