Centre Market is ready for the holidays after Volunteer Wheeling gathered on Saturday morning to spread some holiday cheer. The group decorated 18 planters with fresh pine and ornaments along Main and Market Streets in Centre Market.

“It was a simple project, but we hope it will make the area extra festive for the season,” said Ellen Gano, Volunteer Wheeling organizer. “We were in-and-out in an hour, which just goes to show that volunteering a small amount of your time does have an impact and can really make a difference in our community.”

For the last couple of years, the group has completed multiple cleanup and beautification projects throughout the city. One of the projects they completed over the summer was painting the same planters that are now decorated for the holidays.

Alex Panas is the Communications and Development Manager at Wheeling Heritage. She earned an undergraduate degree in health communication from Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and a master of arts in communication studies from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Since moving back to the Ohio Valley, Alex has been involved in a variety of organizations dedicated to revitalizing Wheeling, including the Wheeling Young Preservationists, Generation Wheeling and the United Way. A self-proclaimed cat lady, Alex lives in St. Clairsville with her two cats, Zoey and Millie, and her husband, Aaron Moore.
