The grant provides financial support to professional working artists, performers and small business owners who have had a loss of income due to COVID-19.
Vanessa Govindan, owner of The Wheeling Feeling, worked with several Wheeling business owners and artists to create this special collection. It includes:
•Coleman’s Fish Market logo enamel pin
•Mount de Chantal logo enamel pin
•Bob Villamagna “Cowboy Luchador” neck gaiter
•Bob Villamagna artwork decal pack
•Wheeling business sticker pack
•West Virginia seal resort tote
“Hearing how this pandemic has affected many of my friends has been heartbreaking. I felt the need to support the small businesses owners in my hometown using the tools and skills I have available to me,” Govindan said. “I know everyone would like to help but might not be able to give much, so I tried to think of a few affordable, fun ways for folks to donate and get something in return.”So far, Wheeling Heritage has awarded a total of $25,000 to 41 local professional artists, entertainers and small business owners. Awardees received up to $1,000, and priority was given to those with immediate needs of shelter, food and other essentials.
With funding from this collaboration, the organization will be able to reopen the grant and support more of the artists, performers and small business owners who are important to the culture and identity of the community, explained Alex Weld, incoming executive director of Wheeling Heritage.
Wheeling Heritage is also accepting donations at wheelingheritage.org/donate. All of the money raised will go to grant recipients.
