The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra will hold auditions for those interested in joining the Philharmonic at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, in the Wheeling Park High School music department.
High school and college students who play woodwinds, brass, percussion and strings should prepare a scale, an etude and a solo for the 15-minute audition. To reserve an audition time, call WSYO Manager Becky Cantrell at 304-232-6191 or send an email to wsyouthorch@gmail.com.
The Sinfonietta, generally for middle school students, requires no audition. New and existing Sinfonietta members who play woodwinds, brass and percussion should attend the first rehearsal from 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 20, in Triadelphia Middle School’s band room in the annex.
“As a community, we are so fortunate to have a youth orchestra. It provides an opportunity for young musicians to grow in their abilities, challenge themselves and be a part of a something that can offer unique experiences outside of the classroom. The Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra is a tuition-free organization, which means that any child who is passionate about playing is given an opportunity to showcase their talent,” said Cantrell. “We look forward to seeing returning students, as well as new faces for the upcoming season.”
Rehearsals for the Philharmonic are scheduled every Monday at WPHS from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 27. Sinfonietta rehearsals are scheduled every Monday from 4-5:30 p.m. at Triadelphia Middle School beginning Aug. 20. Concerts have been planned for 7 p.m. on Nov. 27 and April 16.
