Wheeling Symphony Orchestra’s WSO on the GO Yoga Series will begin Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at 9 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Ballroom featuring yoga instructor, Dr. Judy Romano and Tom Godfrey on classical guitar. The event is free and open to the public; a free-will donation will benefit the charity of the instructor’s choice. All ages and levels of experience are invited to take part. Participants should bring a mat or towel and water.
“We are really excited to kick off our yoga series in February,” says Betsy Delk, the WSO’s Director of Institutional Advancement. “We think taking some time for reflection and self-care would be a wonderful way to start a winter weekend.”
The February installment of WSO on the Go Yoga will feature instructor Dr. Judy Romano with Tom Godfrey on classical guitar. Dr. Judy is pleased to be joining her yoga practice with live music and she states that “the intention and flow of the class this Valentine’s weekend class will be on LOVE and opening up our ‘heart center’ through meditation and vinyasa flow.”
Dr. Romano served the community for 30 years as a pediatrician. Her retirement has allowed her to shift gears and offer yoga as a form of healing. Certified in Yoga Medicine in 2018, Dr. Judy teaches at The Howard Long Wellness Center where she focuses on meditation, breath work and movement. Her classes reflect a melding of science and art and are easily accessible to all levels.
Tom Godfrey is a Pittsburgh-based flutist and guitarist. Wheeling audiences may recognize him from his performances in the Wheeling Symphony’s flute section. He also plays with the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestras, Pittsburgh CLO and is principal flutist of the Westmoreland Symphony. As a classical guitarist Tom regularly plays solo guitar engagements and has played guitar and/or mandolin for Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Ballet, Wheeling Symphony and the Johnstown Symphony. He works as an adjunct guitar instructor at Carnegie Mellon University.
