As author JK Rowling said, “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” During homecoming week, Friday is always packed with fun events for students, faculty, staff and CCHS fans. Walking into school today, I realized how lucky I was to go to a school that is so rooted in tradition and committed to winning both on and off the field. This morning, all students, faculty and staff wore their CCHS apparel with pride to get ready for the afternoon pep rally and football game. The pep rally before the homecoming game is a CCHS tradition that all look forward to. Cheerleaders lead the students in cheers to get us pumped up for the game. The students take part in fun games, such as hula hooping contests and tug of war between the classes. As in all things, we ended our spirited pep rally in prayer and were all dismissed. The much anticipated game was only a few hours away.

Before the football game, we dedicated our game ball to our beloved teacher, baseball coach and friend, Mr. Conlin. We continue to pray for his spiritual healing. At 7:00 tonight, at our home field at Wheeling Jesuit University, the enthusiastic student section cheered on the Maroon Knight football team as they played our rival, Linsly. The game was tense in the first half, tied 0-0. At half time, the CCHS tradition of crowning the homecoming queen continued. Each of the six candidates walk out with their parents as their names and accomplishments are read. Then, with baited breath,  the homecoming queen is announced. Congratulations to Hannah Dieffenbaugher, we are all so proud of you! Then, the second half captivated all fans with many tense moments. In the end, the Maroon Knights won 7-6 against Linsly. It always is a great feeling to know that we won our homecoming game, especially when it was against our rival.

Friday night football games have always been a tradition at CCHS, and hopefully they will continue to be one. In my years at Central, I have always enjoyed getting dressed up in our various themes and cheering on our Maroon Knight football team. These are the times when we all truly get to bond as a school community. As a senior, I have paid special attention to the times that I get to spend with my school friends as they become fewer and fewer. The memories that I have made at these games, bonding with all of the students, are ones that I will remember forever.
