Each year, Youth Services System, Inc. (YSS) recognizes an individual or group for their dedication to bettering the lives of children and families in our community. The annual Good Samaritan is honored at a tribute dinner held at the Wheeling Park White Palace. This year’s Good Samaritan honoree is the Women’s Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.
For the past 11 years, The Women’s Giving Circle (WGC) has strived to improve the lives of women and girls across the Ohio Valley through pooled resources and research-driven grants.
The WGC is building a community of women philanthropists and creating a permanent legacy to address the needs of women and girls in the Upper Ohio Valley of West Virginia and Ohio. The goal is to assist women and girls in achieving lifetime goals that might not otherwise be attainable without the support provided by the giving circle. \
“The Women’s Giving Circle’s grants are focused on empowerment, and I believe the members of the WGC also feel empowered when they see the impact their grants are making,” said WGC Executive Committee member Susie Nelson. “While the focus is on empowering women and girls, the concept is shared across a wide variety of programs, including summer camps for girls, support for women in crisis, mentoring programs, and so much more. We are incredibly grateful for the recognition of YSS.”
“When we started thinking about the Women’s Giving Circle and what they represent, we thought about their dedicated hearts and all of the women and girls whose lives they have changed,” said YSS Director of Development Staci Stephen.
“Over the last eleven years, the Women’s Giving Circle has provided over $405,867 to girls and women in the Ohio Valley. We are honored to highlight the Women’s Giving Circle and their service to the community.”
