Wheeling, WV – A New Twist on an Old Favorite
In a fun and unique twist on a classic competition, the Friends of the Ohio County Public Library (FOCPL) are proud to present their inaugural Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups. This event will bring together adults from the community to test their spelling skills while supporting a great cause. The bee will take place at the stunning Scottish Rite Cathedral in Wheeling on Saturday, June 7, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. The event will be hosted and emceed by local figure Rosemary Ketchum.
Event Details: What to Expect
The Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups will feature ten pre-registered teams, each comprising 2-6 spellers, all competing for exciting prizes. These prizes will not only be awarded for best spelling but also for the most outstanding costumes. Participants will collaborate within their teams to decide on the correct spelling of challenging words, with one member of the team providing the final answer.
Audience members who are not part of the competition can still enjoy the event by purchasing tickets to watch and cheer on their favorite teams and local champions. There will also be opportunities for audience members to engage in the action, ensuring a lively, fun-filled experience. Refreshments will be available throughout the event for everyone to enjoy.
How to Participate

Team Registration: A donation of $100 secures a team spot in the competition. Each team consists of 2 to 6 members, and the registration fee includes a yearly membership to the Friends of the Ohio County Public Library.
