Hangover BBQ Fired Up Over Show of Hands Win

A sweet little voice from the crowded room asked, “What’s your favorite kind of meat to make?” That question, posed by Billy Litman’s 6-year-old niece CeCe, is what put Hangover BBQ over the top at Wednesday’s Show of Hands, Litman believes.

(The answer wasribs,” by the way.)

Hangover BBQ was one of four presenters at the crowd-sourcing event presented by Wheeling Heritage. Others were Sarah and Vincent O’Leary from Honeycomb Salon; Lisa Nielsen of Your Place or Mine Resale and Consignment; and Zeke O’Connell of The Real Gym.

Billy and Stephanie Litman, whose roadside eatery, Hangover BBQ, opened last summer on GC&P Road in the Greggsville area of Wheeling, took home $4,866.

What makes Hangover BBQ stand out from other barbecue places? “Commitment. Consistence. Patience. Quality,” Billy Litman said during their four-minute presentation Wednesday in front of the crowd of around 280.

“I am just so excited and thrilled that we got picked for the winner tonight,” Stephanie Litman commented after the announcement was made. “We’re going to use this money for some great things at Hangover BBQ.”

They intend to use the winnings to purchase a walk-in cooler and a hot holding unit.

“This money is going right into the business,” Billy Litman said. “We just hope to be around for many years to come.”

“We want to thank everybody for coming out to support us,” Stephanie Litman said.

Prize money comes from sponsors and from money collected at the door. Orrick is the event corporate sponsor, and Friends of Show of Hands include: Dave and Beth Weaver, Wheeling Volkswagen and Subaru; Dr. and Mrs. Dan and Debbie Joseph — Joseph Orthodontics; Brian Joseph — Touchstone Research Laboratory; Fuzz and Barb LaRue; H. Lawrence Jones; Kennen & Kennen Realtors; Warwood Armature; Rabbi Joshua and Rebecca Lief; and a private donor.

Show of Hands committee members include Jake Dougherty, Alex Weld, Melinda Koslick, Steve Johnston, Michael Biela, Ron Scott, Devon Hepburn and Valerie Piko.
