How Shape Wheeling Is Moving Ideas Forward Downtown

Downtown Wheeling is in the middle of a visible transformation. Block by block, new ideas are taking shape, long-vacant spaces are being reimagined, and local momentum continues to build.

One standout example comes from last year’s Shape Wheeling winner: the redevelopment concept for the long-vacant “Flower Building” at 1054 Main Street. The project was submitted by Jessica Barclay, owner of ThriVe Wheeling, and quickly became a symbol of what’s possible when creativity meets community investment.

“Our ‘Flower Building’ at 1054 Main Street has stood vacant for several years, but as ThriVe Wheeling and the entire downtown area continue to grow, 1054’s redevelopment is set to become an exciting focal point in the transformations that are happening on every block,” Barclay shared. “While we don’t have a fixed timeline yet, collaborating with Adam on the concept was an absolute blast. Be patient—when it happens, it’s going to be GREAT!”

Shape Wheeling, led by designer and visualizer Adam Clark of Glass Cow Studio, helps local ideas move from vision to visibility by offering pro bono conceptual design and architectural visualizations. It’s not just about buildings, it’s about helping the community clearly see what could be.

“We were so thrilled to win last year’s Shape Wheeling contest,” Barclay added. “We loved working with Adam! If you’ve got a project burning in your soul for a Wheeling property—you should apply.”

As downtown Wheeling continues to thrive, initiatives like Shape Wheeling are proving that thoughtful collaboration and bold imagination are key to keeping the momentum going. For anyone who’s ever looked at a space downtown and thought this could be something, this is a meaningful way to be part of what’s next.
