Our wild and wonderful city is a well known and vibrant local arts hub in the upper Ohio Valley. Art markets and vendor shows pop up around town all year round, permanent gallery spaces are growing in number, murals decorate once bare building walls, and workshops and classes are available across all skill levels in just about any medium you can think of. For years, the people of Wheeling have embraced the local arts scene and look to discover new ways to connect with the creativity that is flourishing throughout the community.
In response, prominent local artist, Mindi Yarborough has created something new this year: The Creative Arts Guild. The Guild, which describes itself as a grassroots initiative, is a gathering of local artists, makers, and art lovers and supporters coming together to celebrate the creative spirit of our region. In order to formalize Guild programming under an established nonprofit structure, the Guild operates within the nonprofit group Friends of the Take Over.
As a way to kick off and celebrate the formation of the group, the Guild is excited to announce their very first Member Exhibition at the Artisan Center Gallery, on the first floor of the Wheeling Heritage Headquarters.
“This inaugural show is an opportunity to celebrate the work of Guild members, introduce the group to the community, and showcase the range of creativity within our growing arts community,” says Yarborough, “This show brings together original works by Creative Arts Guild members in a juried exhibition designed to showcase the talent, imagination, and diversity of our local creative community.”
“Come meet the artists, join or learn more about the guild, experience the work, raise a glass, and help us build something new. Whether you make art, collect it, support it, or simply love being around creative people—you are welcome in the Guild.”
