Wheeling Symphony Orchestra to Present Valentine’s Day Concerts, Complete with Three-Course Meals

(Wheeling, WV) Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) announces the first concert of its spring chamber orchestra series, The Driehorst Family Foundation presents SoundBites Vol. 2: Gershwin – Eat, Drink, & Be Mine, conducted by John Devlin. The concerts will be at Oglebay Wilson Lodge Glessner Ballroom on February 14 with two performances: 1:30 brunch and 6:30 dinner. Each concert will feature a specialty cocktail and a three-course meal. Concerts will be limited in seating with social distancing rules in place. Audiences can opt for a virtual concert with a take-out option for dinner, as well.

Treat your loved one to food, drink, and a big band pops orchestra at Oglebay’s Glessner Ballroom on Valentine’s Day with “Gershwin: Eat, Drink, & Be Mine”. Songs include: I Got Rhythm, S’ Wonderful, Oh, Lady Be Good, Summertime, & Love is Here to Stay.

“We will present a Valentine’s Day celebration featuring the music of the great American composer George Gershwin,” says John Devlin, Music Director and Conductor of the WSO. “I call him a “great composer” because this man is a master. The music we will perform for you shows a composer completely in control of the best stylings of popular music—but also someone that could compose and perform classical music at the highest level. And, we also know he wrote jazz tunes that will want to make us dance the night away. Whether you dance is up to you—but we know that this night will be the perfect way to ring in Valentine’s Day.”

In addition to the culinary and musical elements to the evening, the WSO has partnered with D.C-based artist Britt Conley to showcase a visual representation of one of Gershwin’s biggest hits. Ms. Conley is a synesthesic music-visualist who creates artistic works that visually represent music via personifying composers writing styles, concepts of the musical composition process or particular music pieces. She often collaborates with composers and musicians for event-based exhibitions. Ms. Conley holds a BA in Fine Arts from George Washington University, a MALS from Georgetown University, a certificate in Art History: History of Color from the University of Cambridge, UK International Summer School, and an Associates in Photography from Northern Virginia Community College. Her studio resides in building 10 at The Workhouse Arts Center, just outside of Washington D.C., in Lorton, Virginia.
