The Theater Department of Ohio University Eastern will hold open community auditions for its upcoming production of John Patrick Shanley’s drama, “Prodigal Son,”  at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, and Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Shannon Hall Theater.

“Prodigal Son” premiered in New York in January 2016. The story is about a 17-year-old boy from the Bronx who suddenly finds himself in a private school in New Hampshire. He is violent, gifted, alienated and on fire with a ferocious loneliness. Two faculty members wrestle with the dilemma: Is the kid a star or a disaster?

The Wall Street Journal called “Prodigal Son,” “a heart-sore portrait of adolescent turmoil that bears the stamp of hard-earned truth on every scene… [it’s] the best thing that Mr. Shanley has given us since “Doubt.”  You can’t get much better than that.”

Roles are available for four men, ages 18-55 and for one woman aged 40-55.  Anyone interested is encouraged to audition, and no previous acting experience is necessary.  Scripts will be available one hour before auditions begin.
