Summer Reading at the Library

Summer is all about fun and adventure! While that may mean seeing new places, or exploring nature, there’s so many new things to find at the Ohio County Public Library, thanks to our Summer Reading programs! We’ve got a summer jam-packed full of events for everyone from babies to adults. This year’s theme is Unearth a Story, so expect a summer full of dinosaurs, nature, and learning.
The Kids Summer Reading Program officially starts on June 6th at our Kick-Off Carnival. From 1-3pm! The Carnival is something kiddos look forward to all year, with games and prizes, face painting, popcorn, balloon animals, and a bouncy house. The carnival will set us up for a summer of nonstop fun. Stop by, and grab a packet and get signed up for our Kids Summer Reading program.
Adult Summer Reading has its first program on June 3rd from 6:30 – 7:30, “Unearth The Earth’s Bounty” with Bill Beatty and Janice Runyan. They are both “wildly” experienced educators of our natural world.  This duo works together exploring, enjoying, and teaching others about our natural world. Both are nature photographers. Bill writes books and articles, and Janice edits. Both are certified bird banders, and have many accomplishments caring for and educating people about nature. For this program, they will be teaching us how to forage for local wild food. There are seven other adult programs throughout the summer, ranging from learning about your ancestral roots. You can see all of them here (https://www.ohiocountylibrary.org/docs/0l_AdultSummerReading-ProgramEvents.pdf).
The Summer is full of events for kids, you can see all of them here (https://www.ohiocountylibrary.org/docs/87_AgeGroupFlyers(9).pdf) . We’ve got a movie night, trivia, lizards, and so much more. Of course, we’ll close off Summer Reading with our End of Summer Reading Pool Party on July 30th. What’s most exciting is that Storytime in the Park is back, every Thursday from June 11th until August 13th. To accompany Storytime in the Park, we’re also taking the library around town with Storytime at the Pool. Every Monday, from June 8th to July 27th, Mr. B will be visiting pools around Wheeling to dive into some good books with the kiddos. The full schedule and all the pools he’ll be visiting are available on our website (https://www.ohiocountylibrary.org/docs/2w_summerreadinglogos2026(RealEstateFlyer).pdf).
Our schedule is jam-packed, and we can’t wait to see you all summer long!
