4th Annual Earth Day Block Party: Music, Food, and Green Living Come Together

Get ready to groove for the planet! The Ohio County Solid Waste Authority (OCSWA) is bringing the Earth Day Block Party back to Wheeling University for the fourth year in a row—and it promises to be the biggest and greenest celebration yet.

A Day to Celebrate “Our Power, Our Planet”

On Sunday, April 27th from 12 PM to 5 PM, the campus of Wheeling University (316 Washington Avenue) will transform into a hub of environmental celebration, local culture, and community engagement. Now in its second year at this location, the event continues to grow as a family-friendly favorite for Wheeling and the Ohio Valley.

This year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” ties into the broader Earth Day movement, emphasizing how grassroots action and education can empower individuals to protect and preserve our world.

Live Music Lineup to Set the Vibe

The afternoon will be filled with live performances by a talented lineup of local musicians. Expect to hear:

  • Jim McLaughlin

  • Faire May

  • Zoe Buccella

  • Grant Coleman with Adrian Niles

  • Brimstone Coven

Whether you’re dancing in the grass or relaxing with a coffee, the music will create a lively backdrop for an inspiring day outdoors.

Sustainability in Action

Beyond the tunes and treats, the Earth Day Block Party is a celebration of sustainability in action. Rebecca Friend, Executive Director of OCSWA, emphasizes the event’s broader mission:

“The Earth Day Block Party is about celebrating our environment and empowering our community through connection, creativity, and education. Sustainable living is more than just recycling—it’s about reducing waste, thinking outside the box, and lifting up local initiatives that inspire us all.”

OCSWA, which also operates the Highlands Recycling Center, invites attendees to learn more about practical ways to reduce environmental impact while connecting with local organizations doing vital work in the community.
