Mustard Seed Mountain to Celebrate Return

After a two-year hiatus, West Virginia’s first street paper, Mustard Seed Mountain, is officially making its return, and the Wheeling community is invited to celebrate tonight.

The relaunch party takes place Friday, May 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Urban Collective and promises an evening centered around community, creativity, connection and support for one of the region’s most unique grassroots publications.

The fundraiser event will feature live music from beloved local band Stone Campus, readings from Mustard Seed Mountain’s new spring issue, raffle prizes, exclusive merchandise and plenty of opportunities to connect with the people helping bring the paper back to life.

Attendees can also enjoy food from local sponsors Table 304 and Elle & Jack’s, available while supplies last, along with handcrafted mocktails from Midge’s Kitchen.

Organizers say the intentionally sober event is meant to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, particularly those in addiction recovery or anyone who simply wants to enjoy a substance-free night out. The celebration aims to show that sober spaces can still be vibrant, joyful and deeply rooted in community.

The return of Mustard Seed Mountain comes at an important moment for Wheeling. Through storytelling and community journalism, the publication focuses on amplifying voices and experiences that are often overlooked, including stories connected to homelessness, poverty, addiction and recovery.

In addition to publishing community-centered reporting, the paper’s vendor program helps unhoused and low-income individuals earn income through newspaper distribution, offering opportunities for stability, dignity and connection.

As conversations surrounding homelessness and recovery continue throughout the city, organizers hope the relaunch represents more than just the return of a newspaper. They hope it serves as a reminder that compassion, visibility and community support still matter, and that meaningful change often begins with listening to one another’s stories.
