There’s More Going On Than You Think

If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “What is there to do this weekend?” You’re definitely not alone.

It’s a question that comes up all the time. And more often than not, people turn to Facebook, scroll for a bit, maybe catch a few events, and still feel like they’re missing something. The truth is, there’s almost always more happening in Wheeling than meets the eye.

And one of the best tools to actually see it all in one place? It’s been here all along.

Meet Visit Wheeling

Visit Wheeling, also known as the Wheeling Convention and Visitors Bureau, is all about showcasing what makes Wheeling a place to explore, experience, and enjoy year-round.

From live performances and sporting events to festivals, markets, and community gatherings, their work centers around connecting people, both visitors and locals, to what’s happening across the region.

As they put it, Wheeling is a place filled with “festivals, events, activities, and excitement held year-round,” and that energy shows up in everything from a night at the Capitol Theatre to a weekend spent downtown or at Oglebay. The CVB does so much for our area, to help make it attractive to visitors and the people who live right here, but one thing they offer is this awesome tool.

The Calendar You Should Be Using

Visit Wheeling maintains what is arguably the most comprehensive events calendar in the area. And it’s updated in real time.

This isn’t just a list of a few highlighted happenings. It’s everything: Shows at the Capitol Theatre. Symphony performances. Concerts and comedy. Gallery openings. Library programming. Festivals, games, and community events happening all over Wheeling.

Have family coming into town next month? Trying to plan a weekend with friends? Looking for something specific, like live music or a kid-friendly event? You can map it all out in advance, instead of scrambling the day of.

One of the best-kept secrets about the calendar is that it’s not just something you use, it’s something you can contribute to. If you’re a business, organization, or community group hosting an event that’s open to the public, you can submit it to be included.

Typically, that means providing: an image, short description, event details like date, time, and location, and any relevant links for tickets or registration. It’s a simple way to get your event in front of a wider audience and make sure it’s part of the bigger picture of what’s happening in Wheeling.

A Tool Worth Bookmarking

At Weelunk, we’ve started pulling a few highlights from the calendar each week and sharing them in our Friday features and social media stories, but that’s really just scratching the surface. If you’re someone who likes to stay in the know, this is a resource worth saving, bookmarking, or keeping handy on your phone. Because the next time you catch yourself wondering what’s going on, there’s a really good chance the answer is already there, you just have to know where to look!
