Why Wheeling: The Viles Family (The Christmas House)

From the Festival of Lights to the iconic Wheeling Christmas Parade, our city has a plethora of Christmas Time activities. On Wheeling Island specifically, the Viles family provides an exciting and interactive Christmas experience for locals. Commonly known as “The Christmas House” on Wheeling Island, 44 Kentucky St. is a magical stop for friends of all ages.

The Viles Family’s Journey to Wheeling

Jamie and Shaun Viles and their children moved to the Ohio Valley from Texas in 2022. They had lived in Texas since 1993 and were ready for change. After looking at houses in Mount Vernon, Missouri, a change of events thankfully led them to Wheeling! Jamie explained that before they came to Wheeling “We were told down in Texas how everyone was stuck up here in this part of the country. Then, when we got here we realized how friendly everyone is!” What finally sealed the deal for their big move was that Jamie’s brother lives only a couple hours away, so they’re thankful to have family nearby.

What Makes Wheeling Special to the Viles Family

I asked Shaun and Jamie  what they would tell other families who are considering moving to Wheeling. Their response – “the amount of hidden opportunities and the history”. The Viles family explained that they love the friendly people in our town and the activities that are available for everyone. As history lovers, Jamie said that the amount of history in Wheeling and surrounding areas is one of their favorite parts of living here, and that they plan on being part of our community for a long time!
